The summer 2010 issue of Medical Innovation & Business is a special edition devoted to the potential consequences of the Patent Reform Act of 2010, currently pending in the Senate as S. 515 and in the House of Representatives as H.R. 1260, with emphasis on university researchers, university spin-offs, emerging start-ups and small life sciences companies, especially those in the medical sciences.

Contributors shared commentary on the importance of the patent system, anticipated effects of the proposed reform legislation, , alternatives to legislative patent system reforms, problems currently plaguing the U.S. patent office and potential measures to address these. This special edition of the journal is made available at no charge courtesy of the publishers of Medical Innovation & Business.
